The ISL Schools Group began in 1972 when the International School of London was founded as a private co-educational school. It was one of the first schools to offer the IB Diploma, graduating its first Diploma students in 1978. It now offers the IB Primary and Middle Years programmes in addition to the IB Diploma and is especially well known for its world language programmes.
Students receive mother tongue or foreign language literacy lessons from early childhood as part of the curriculum. Because of the strength of its languages programme, ISL was selected by Qatar’s Supreme Education Council to open a school in Doha as part of the Outstanding Schools initiative. Continuing its expansion, ISL was chosen by Shell to acquire the Surrey-situated Prins Willem Alexander School which, at the time, was the highest performing Dutch school in the world. The ISL Schools now enrol over 1200 students across their three campuses in Chiswick, West London; Woking, Surrey; and Doha, Qatar.
The mother tongue and foreign languages, small class sizes and academic provision within a positive learning environment have been recognized in recent IB reports and visits. ISL Qatar is a friendly school that is small enough to ensure each child is a respected individual, yet large enough to support a vibrant and active international community.
23 February 2016: ISL Qatar has qualified to become the Diploma of Spanish as a Second Language (DELE) examination centre for Qatar. DELE is the recognized international certification of Spanish fluency and is required for any student wishing to attend Spanish universities.
ISL Qatar teaches Spanish mother tongue as well as 11 other mother tongue languages, and is the recognised leader of Mother Tongue programmes in Doha. The school will host the DELE exams from the Instituto Cervantes for the first time in May 2016. The DELE examinations provide an official certificate from the Spanish Government, through the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. Students will have the opportunity to take these prestigious and internationally recognized Spanish examinations at the International School of London Qatar.
The DELE exams follow the European Language Framework (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2). Students unsure of their level can access an online assessment through the Instituto Cervantes website. The junior ‘Escolar’ examinations for A2 and B1, are targeted for younger learners from the age of 11 to 17. Additional information may be found on the Languages tab of our website’s home page. The school is authorised to offer the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes and is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
