The Quick Bites restaurant at Marriott Marquis City Center Doha is renowned in Doha as the perfect breakfast and coffee one-stop-shop for delicious, fast and tasty food. Now they have a new menu filled with old favourites, and new exciting dishes!
When you get to Quick Bites, the cool vibrant interior is the first thing that you notice. This soothing cafe is littered with comfy chairs for all occasions – deep sofas for enjoying a cup of coffee and some light bites, or cushioned chairs and a table if you want to sit and check your emails – or enjoy a lengthy breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We were at Quick Bites to sample their exciting new menu so we ventured over to meet with Chef Josna Thakur who told us all about her special new additions to the menu. She was insisitant on preparing us a selection of her favourite dishes. Everything has a unique twist that makes it her own and that’s what makes this menu, and venue, so special.
Starters
The first item to arrive on our table was the Truffle Brie Cream served on fluffy, flat bread. Beware – the cheese is strong on this dish – but ever so creamy. The chunks of dried fig, and the bed of fresh, warm bread, enhanced the flavours of the brie and was soooo satosfying to indulge in. Alongside the brie, we were serevd a selection of the Wellness Signature Dishes: the Avo, Cucumbers and Smoked Salmon. Each was served on a thick wedge of sourdough bread but the toppings were so fresh and oozing with flavour. There is no better way to pack goodness in to your diet!
Next, we were brought an assortment of dips – California, Truffle Hummus and Muhammara – severed along side some exquisit triangle of crunchy pita bread. These are my favourite kind of dips – light on the bread, heavy on the dip! The taste of each dip was better than the last – the California was a minty, avocado dip, the Muhammara was an awesome red pepper dip, and the truffle hummus was an instant classic.
Main Courses
After we had finished licking the plates clean, our main courses began to arrive. First to arrive was the Salmon. It was served on a bundle of shaved zucchini and drizzled in an incredible parsley black garlic drizzle. So fresh and flavourful! Alongside the salmon, came the Waldorf Salad and the Egglant Mujadara Style. These dishes are both vegetarian friendly, and certainly tastebud friendly! The Waldorf Salad was tangles of shaved zucchini with delicate slices of green apple, crumbles of stliton, nuggets of caremlised walnuts all tossed in a lemon mayo confit. The Eggplant Mujadara was equally impressive – with baked eggplant stuffed with lentil rice, carmelised onions, cumin and melted burrata to top it off!
I want to give special mention the Spaghetti and Meatballs. What sounded like a simple dish, quickly became the most intriguing dish of the day. Chef Josna explained that it was her take on a Spaghetti Bolognese but in my opinion this creation far out shines it’s inspiration. The veal and lobster meatballs have a wonderful umami falvour that sets them apart from anything we had tried before. Couple that with a smoky tomato sauce, and you have yourself a masterpiece!
Vegan Options
Woven in to the fabric of this new menu are some exciting vegan options. These certainly aren’t your typical lettuce and boiled vegetable options either – they are fascinating, flavourful recipes bursting with different tastes. The best sellers that we would heartily recommend are the Impossible Burger and the Blueberry Textures.
Desserts
After all that food, it was hard to imagine tasting anything else. But when Chef Josna brought out her favourite desserts it was impossible nto to have a spoonful…. and then another. We were given two very different desserts – one was a healthy, wholesome fruit bowl and the other was a sweet and sticky creation. The Berry Bowl was a treat – it’s not often that you find fresh berries here in Qatar – and this dish had all of them! The base od acay cream was dabbled with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries, and infused with a sweet vanilla meringue. The Crepes on the other hand were all about the sugar. The crepes themselves were wonderfully light and fluffy, and folded around slices of banana, dollops of marscapone cream and lashings of maple syrup. The chunks of strawberry were an added treat!
Grab and Go Counter
If you don’t have time to sit and linger like we did – the Grab And Go counter at Quick Bites has to be one of the best. They have a ‘make your own’ salad station, huge baguettes, and even freshly baked pizza, prepped and ready to go! They also have freshly prepared meals waiting for you to grab – which include an impressive selection of vegan and vegetarian options.
