Doha English Speaking School (DESS) recently welcomed HE British Ambassador John Wilkes for a tour around their new state-of-the-art facilities for Year 7 and 8, opening in September 2021. The ambassador was accompanied by his wife.
Students from DESS showcased their musical talents and the new cutting-edge Music Technology suite.
Leading British Curriculum School in Qatar
Established in 1979 and formally opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II and HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, the present Amir’s father, DESS remains proud to be one of the longest established and leading British curriculum schools in Qatar.
Following the opening of Year 7 in September this year, DESS will continue the expansion of its senior school by opening Year 8 in September 2022, to become the only non-for-profit preparatory school in Qatar. As a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) – a UK kitemark of excellence in education – DESS will focus on providing the best possible education for children 3 to 13 years old.
Awarded the highest graded ‘Outstanding’ by BSO inspectors, students are challenged to achieve academic excellence within a community, family orientated school which offers not-for-profit education in a child-focused and caring environment.
Their senior school will maintain the sanctuary of a primary school setting with senior school facilities, ensuring that children feel comfortable while gradually growing in their independence. The school recognises the importance of nurturing students who are individually known by all teachers.
New Facilities
DESS students will benefit from the use of excellent new facilities. The state of the art building will provide them with a new Science Laboratory, Art Room and Music Studios, as well as music technology equipment and a Common Room with canteen facilities.
Staff will get to know the children, and help them to recognise and develop their strengths. The small, inclusive school will enable the school team to foster the best from students during their early senior school years.
