Members of 18 Business Councils and Chambers of Commerce in Qatar recently gathered at Raffles Doha for a joint Suhoor, in the presence of 14 ambassadors.
These chambers and business councils were in attendance at the Suhoor event:
- Advantage Austria, AHK (German), Amcham (American), Italian, Spanish and French Chambers of Commerce
- Canadian, Croatian, Dutch, German, Polish, Portuguese, Singaporean, QBBF (British), Ukrainian, Swedish, Swiss and Turkish business councils
Dr Fariborz Samadian of the Swiss Business Council addressed the 350 attendees. He said that last year’s pre-World Cup networking event created such momentum that more and more business groups are willing to join their initiatives. He said they will continue to organise joint events for the business community to be able to exchange.
Dr Fariborz and Ilef Ajra, representatives of the German Industry and Commerce Office, presented Caroline Adenberger from Advantage Austria with a souvenir poster from Qatar. Adenberger first suggested the concept of a joint Suhoor. She is leaving Doha after four years as the Austria Trade Commissioner for Qatar and Kuwait.
The Suhoor was held outdoors and guests were able to socialise with live music in the background.
This is the first Ramadan event organised with so many business associations, a very successful post-World Cup event showing the strengthening ties of the international business community in the country.
