Get ready to explore Gymkhana’s latest culinary creation – the Business Lunch. Gymkhana, an Indian restaurant within the luxurious Katara Hills Doha, now offers a Business Lunch that brings you a taste of India’s finest cuisine, presenting a mix of flavours that harmonise tradition with modernity.
Ambience and Setting
The restaurant’s description of evoking the elegance of Colonial India’s elite clubs was no exaggeration. The sophisticated interior, adorned with traditional decor and vibrant colours, exuded a regal charm that transported me to a bygone era. The abundant natural light filtering through the glass windows added a touch of warmth, making the space inviting and cheerful. It was the perfect setting for a refined dining experience.
The attentive staff, who greeted us with genuine smiles, set the tone for an experience that was as much about the people as it was about the food. Their dedication to making us feel at home was evident, as they guided us through the menu and attended to our needs with grace and professionalism.
Flavours That Enchant
Gymkhana’s menu is a delightful exploration of Indian flavours, expertly marrying traditional techniques with contemporary twists. Our meal began with an array of papads accompanied by a selection of chutneys, setting the tone for what was to come.
The samosa chaat is officially one of my favourite starters. It’s like a tasty mix of flavours and textures. The samosas are crispy, and the channa masala is really hearty. The tamarind sauce adds a sweet and tangy taste that makes every bite interesting. Plus, the sev on top gives a nice crunch when you eat it. When you put all these things together, it’s like a big burst of different yummy flavours in your mouth that feels both cosy and exciting at the same time.
For the main course, I opted for the prawn biryani, a fragrant masterpiece that showcased the kitchen’s mastery of spices. Each bite was a revelation, with tender prawns and perfectly cooked rice infused with layers of aromatic spices. The dish was perfectly balanced, with the sweetness of the prawns harmonising with the rich and earthy notes of the biryani spices. The pomegranate mint raita provided a refreshing contrast, its coolness and tanginess cutting through the warmth of the biryani. It was served with dal maharani, which added a comforting touch with its creamy texture and medley of lentils, and saag makai for a burst of green freshness.
Dessert was a showstopper – the gulab jamun adorned with edible gold. This classic Indian sweet was elevated to an exquisite level of indulgence, with the gold adding a touch of luxury.
Gymkhana at Katara Hills Doha is not just a restaurant; it’s a culinary voyage through India’s rich and diverse flavours. The attention to detail in presentation and taste was evident in every dish, elevating the entire dining experience.
