In what promises to be a significant milestone in Qatar’s ever-evolving culture scape, the International Chamber Music Concert Series for Peace and Unity is set to welcome the finest artists from around the world to perform a sparkling series of concerts in a uniquely intimate setting throughout 2018/2019.
The newly established Chamber Music Society of Qatar and six diplomatic missions to Qatar — embassies of France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands — have joined forces to not only treat the nation to a variety of world-class concerts in an effort to boost each country’s native art and culture and inspire the local community in Qatar, but also to symbolise a movement celebrating music and culture as their own.
At a press conference held recently, the French Embassy in Qatar, the French Institute, Qatar Chamber Music Society supported by Fifty One East, FNAC, Qatar Airways, and the Mondrian Hotel, announced that they will flag off this series of concerts ‘for peace and unity in the world’, with a recital of classical music on the occasion of the ‘Centenary of Claude Debussy’ (1862-1918).
The artiste to be flown down from France for this inaugural concert, supported by the French Embassy and the French Institute in Qatar, is Ambroisine Bre. The rising star mezzo-soprano will perform at Mondrian Hotel Doha on 17 April with the prolific concert pianist and Artistic Director of the ambitious event, Sonja Park. These two talents will be accompanied by two professional musicians from the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) — Dmitri Torchinsky (violin) and Hassan Moataz El Molla (cello).
Entry to the concert is free; seating is on a first come, first served basis. The concert supports the non-profit foundation, Moving Young Artists (MYA), which has been promoting classical music and nurturing young local talent in Qatar for nearly four years now.
For this good cause, helping hands are springing up from across sectors. Fifty One East and FNAC will provide a Yamaha Grand Piano for the concert series, Qatar Airways is the official airline partner, while hospitality partner, Mondrian Hotel, will provide the venue and accommodation for the artists.
