Excitement is building in Qatar and across the region for the start of the FIFA Arab Cup™, as 16 national teams prepare to battle it out for the prestigious title from 30 November to 18 December.
As part of the celebration, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) is planning a number of cultural activations for fans to enjoy during the tournament.
Those attending FIFA Arab Cup™ matches will experience pre and post-match activations around the five tournament venues: Al Bayt, Ahmad Bin Ali, Al Janoub, Al Thumama and Stadium 974.
The activations will feature music, dance, folklore and other performances from communities representing Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Morocco, Sudan and other Arab countries. Cultural activations will be located in the last mile area and metro/bus stations near the stadiums. A total of 200 performances in 60 locations are set to take place during the tournament.
Exciting activations
Away from the tournament venues, fans will also have the opportunity to enjoy some exciting activations along the Doha Corniche – thanks to a collaboration between the SC, Qatar Tourism, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and Cultural Village Foundation – Katara. Numerous performances will take place on three mini-stages along the Corniche at the Qatar International Food Festival, with performers coming from local communities representing the participating teams in the tournament. Corniche activities will be open to the public on weekdays, from 6 pm to 10 pm, and on weekends, from 5 pm to 12 am, until 3 December.
According to SC’s Stakeholder Relations Director Khaled Al Suwaidi, the FIFA Arab Cup™ provides a wonderful opportunity for Qatar’s diverse communities to be part of this important event, as the country prepares to host the world in a year’s time. He said that these activations will enhance the atmosphere, as fans make their way to the stadiums for matches or to enjoy the sights of the Corniche during daytime or evening.
FIFA Arab Cup™ Trophy Experience
Qatar communities will also be given the opportunity to engage and interact with the tournament through the FIFA Arab Cup™ Trophy Experience. The gleaming prize is currently being exhibited at various community schools, centres and tourist attractions across the country. Fans can have their photo taken with the trophy at numerous venues.
Members of the public are reminded that Corniche street will be closed to traffic in both directions until 4 December. Road users are advised to take alternative routes or use public transportation.
