The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) has issued a reminder to individuals possessing dangerous animals, urging them to avoid bringing or walking these animals in public spaces.
This directive is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and environmental protection, as mandated by Law No. (10) of 2019, which regulates the possession of dangerous animals and organisms.
In addition to the prohibition of walking dangerous animals in public, the law also forbids displaying, selling, or trading these animals. The regulation includes 28 breeds of dangerous dogs and other organisms classified as hazardous. Among the restricted dog breeds are the Doberman, Ridgeback, American Staffordshire Terrier, Boston Terrier, German Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Ca de Bou, Canary Dog, Dogo Argentino, Brazilian Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Bulldog, Bullmastiff, Old English Mastiff, Dogue de Bordeaux, Boxer, Great Dane, Rottweiler, Shar Pei, Cane Corso, Kangal Dog, Tibetan Mastiff, and Caucasian Ovcharka.
Additionally, the regulation covers various dangerous wildlife species, including large cats such as Panthera leo (lion), Panthera tigris (tiger), Panthera pardus (leopard), Panthera onca (jaguar), Puma concolor (puma), and Acinonyx jubatus (cheetah). Other restricted species include Crocuta crocuta (spotted hyena), Hyaena hyaena (striped hyena), Vulpes vulpes (red fox), Canis aureus (golden jackal), Papio hamadryas (hamadryas baboon), Chorocbus pygerythrus (vervet monkey), Pan troglodytes (chimpanzee), and Gorilla spp (gorilla).
