Hamad International Airport (HIA) has floated tenders for the third phase expansion of the airport, expected to be completed before 2022. The airport will also witness the construction of an Airport City which will provide significant future investment opportunities, including a free trade zone, an office and business complex, hotels and more.
According to HIA Chief Operating Officer Engineer Badr Mohammed Al Meer, tenders have already been floated for the third phase expansion of the airport. Some contractors will also start implementing projects on the second and third quarter of this year. He added that the expansion project is expected to be completed before FIFA 2022 World Cup.
Smart Airport Programme
In five years, HIA has successfully completed the first major phase of its Smart Airport programme, which has enabled Qatar Airways to process more than 25% of its passengers using self-service check-in and bag-drop facilities. Earlier this year, HIA embarked on its second phase of expansion plans to accommodate an expected 53 million passengers annually by 2022.
HIA organised an appreciation Suhoor at The St. Regis Doha recently, where they revealed a corporate video to mark their five-year anniversary.
Qatar’s state-of-the-art terminal is on a mission to support Qatar National Vision 2030, with expansion plans and smart airport vision initiatives already lined up for implementation. HIA also emphasised their role and responsibility in incorporating the Qatari culture into the airport, both from an environmental as well as a cultural perspective, to provide travellers with a unique and unmatched passenger experience.
HIA has been ranked as the ‘Fourth Best Airport in the World’ at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2019 and received the ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ for fifth consecutive year.
