The creation of a new luxury auto brand is an audacious and exciting endeavor – a dream for any car designer. Living that dream is precisely what brought together some of the world’s best known auto experts, designers and visionaries to the Genesis headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.
Over the past two years, the world’s newest luxury car brand has attracted the who’s who of the automotive world, from former Bugatti designer Alexander Selipanov to serve as the brand’s chief designer, to ex-Bentley design chief Luc Donckerwolke to head the Genesis brand’s design department. They joined Manfred Fitzgerald, the Global Head of Genesis, who himself is the former Director of Brand and Design at Lamborghini, to create a prominent new player in the luxury space.
Speaking about the process for designing Genesis cars, Fitzgerald said:
With Genesis, we start by understanding those things that create enjoyment in owning a luxury car, and then we bring design, technology and careful engineering together to create something that will excite the senses and that people will desire.
Each vehicle in the Genesis line-up has its own mission and identity: the driver-focused G80, the luxurious flagship G90 sedan, and the upcoming G70, which will capture the entry-level consumer.

Speaking further about the flagship Genesis G90, El Malla explained that every detail of the G90 has been crafted to enhance the sense of luxury and prestige, rooted in meticulous research. For example, advanced ergonomic analysis dictates the positioning of driver controls, passenger comfort and entertainment features, while exclusive materials are sourced from the finest artisans around the world.

Exterior Design
In crafting the Genesis G90, the Prestige Design Group, sought to capture the vehicle’s strength and originality, while presenting fresh appeal through innovative styling and athletic proportions. Refined use of chrome elements serve to create an elegant and premium appearance, along with standard 19-inch premium alloy wheels.
Interior Design
Effortless ergonomics, interior design harmony, convenience and luxurious comfort guided the design of the Genesis G90 interior. Virtually every element of the interior focuses on the passenger’s needs, from the intuitive horizontal layout of driver controls to meticulous craftsmanship with precision stitching. Extensive consideration was given to material selection for the G90. The highest-quality, authentic materials adorn the cabin, cacooning occupants in genuine wood accents and soft leather.
Luxury Convenience Features
Simplicity and intuitive function were key elements in the development of G90 convenience features, delivering the ultimate carefree ownership experience. This concerted effort on human-focused technology can be found all over the driver’s interior cabin from advanced seating and climate features to an intuitive multimedia system and wireless device charging. Seating comfort was a key development target for G90. Ergo-design seating, including an electronically-controlled, 22-way power driver’s seat including power bolsters, cushion extension and shoulder adjustment, was approved by the German campaign for healthier backs, ‘Aktion Gesunder Rücken’.
