Qatar Airways, sponsor of a number of E-Prix in the 2017/2018 ABB FIA Formula E Championship, the electric street racing series, was the Official Airline Partner of the 2018 BMW i Berlin E-Prix in Berlin, where the fully-electric Formula E cars battled it out around the grounds of the historic Tempelhof Airport. The event marked the first time that Qatar’s national carrier was the official airline sponsor of the event in the German capital.
Earlier this year, the airline enhanced its highly-successful sponsorship of Formula E, proving its commitment to environmentally-friendly initiatives.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker, said that the sporting partnership fits perfectly with their commitment to innovation. Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Formula E, Alejandro Agag, said that it is only fitting that Qatar Airways are on board as partner for the BMW i Berlin E-Prix.
Partnership with Multiple World-Class Sporting Events
Qatar Airways sponsors multiple world-class sporting events and clubs worldwide, in recognition of the power that sports has in bringing people together. In March, Qatar Airways signed a five-year partnership agreement with leading German football team FC Bayern München AG, further strengthening Qatar’s role as a global leader in sports. Under the agreement, the award-winning airline will become an FC Bayern München platinum partner until June 2023.
Qatar Airways also recently revealed multi-year sponsorship agreements with Italian football club AS Roma, for which it will become the Official Jersey Sponsor through the 2020-2021 season; and with Argentinian football club Boca Juniors, for which it will become the Official Jersey Sponsor through the 2021-2022 season.
As part of a newly enhanced three-season deal with Formula E, announced in Doha in January this year, the airline will be the title sponsor of the Qatar Airways New York City E-Prix, taking place on 14 – 15 July. In addition to supporting Formula E, Qatar Airways is also the Official Airline Partner of FIFA, which includes the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, the FIFA Club World Cup™, the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, the FIFA Under-20 and Under 17 World Cups™, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup™, the FIFA Interactive World Cup™ and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™.
