With the International Cricket Cup (ICC) reaching its conclusion in the UK, fans in Qatar can catch live action at the Doha Workers Cricket Cup 2019 until 26 July at the MIC Cricket Ground in Mesaieed. The T-12 tournament is part of the Summer in Qatar activities organised by QSports and Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC).
According to Mashal Shahbik of QNTC, Qatar recognises the power of sports to bring people together.
We have ensured that this summer features e-sports through the competitions at Virtuocity as well as a cricket cup, through which we pay tribute to the Qatar-India Year of Culture. Promising live action right here, the Doha Workers Cricket Cup 2019 is part of a packed calendar of events this Summer in Qatar.’
The Doha Workers Cricket Cup is a T-12 tournament with 16 teams playing in four groups. Each team will play a minimum of three group matches with eight teams reaching in the playoffs. The matches will be played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 5:30 pm and 7:20 pm, with the final match and awards ceremony taking place on Friday, 26 July. The winning team will win a cash prize of QAR15,000 with medals and tournament trophy. There are over QAR20,000 worth of cash prizes and trophies for players of different categories throughout the tournament.
Ghanim Al Mohannadi, Vice Chairman of QSports said that the Doha Workers Cricket Cup 2019 is a unique tournament in Qatar.
In its second edition, this is the first year (that) it is being supported and sponsored by QNTC. Targeting labourers at companies around the country to enjoy a professional tournament with the highest standards, we hope that the tournament expand to include more teams in the future.’
The cricket tournament is part of the biggest Summer in Qatar programme curated by QNTC and its 30+ partners from public and private sectors. The programme enlists a wide range of activities for people of all ages, interests and backgrounds.
These include family-friendly entertainment shows, music concerts and comedy performances by top international artists, summer camps for children and youth, thrilling outdoor experiences and sporting tournaments, in addition to exciting travel, hospitality and retail promotions. The Summer in Qatar programme is until 16 August.
