Qatar Foundation Chairperson HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and Vice-Chair and CEO HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, attended the opening ceremony of the second edition of the annual D’reesha Performing Arts Festival this week.
Qatar Foundation Well-being Specialist Ghoroor Abdulwaheed, who spoke during the official opening of the festival said the event presents a unique experience, an outlet for connectedness and self-expression that will bring together many artists and talents with various abilities under one roof, highlighting the Arab culture, language and heritage.
The seven-day festival, which is being held during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, will celebrate Arab culture and heritage through performances, educational workshops and fun activities for people of all ages and interests.
The opening event featured a concert by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra that took visitors on a cultural journey through the country’s past, present and future. The concert was followed by another musical performance on The Journey of Ibn Battuta. Featuring regional actors alongside students from schools under Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education (PUE), as well as members of the wider community, the show detailed the adventures of the famous Arab explorer, Ibn Battuta.
Ten-year-old Noura Alibrahim, a student at Academyati, shared that she’s made lots of friends from different schools and learned to be more confident, thanks to her being part of the show.
I’m excited, and I can’t wait to do the show – I’m looking forward to my family seeing me perform for the first time.
