Qatar sprinting sensation Abderrahman Samba lit up the Khalifa International Stadium with his impressive gold winning performance at the Men’s 400-metre Hurdles with fellow athlete Abubaker Haydar Abdalla, adding a second gold medal in the Men’s 800-metre for Team Qatar on Day 2 of the Asian Athletics Championships.
The celebrations of the Men’s 400m Hurdles and Men’s 800m Gold medal triumphs will continue throughout Qatar, with both athletes handing a ticket for every metre they won – 1,200 tickets. Local schools, in honour of their respective victories, will be given tickets to experience the final days of the Asian Athletics Championships.
Samba is hoping that his latest gold medal will inspire the next generation of athletes across the country.
It is important for the children of Qatar to come and learn all about the athletes and see this amazing stadium and competition. I hope that the tickets give the children a great experience to learn more and enjoy athletics.’
With athletes from 42 different nations across Asia, communities are encouraged to rally around their countrymen and women, give them a warm Doha welcome, and offering support to inspire winning performances.
Stars from China and the Philippines have set new records in track and field events, and the final medals are decided upon this week at Khalifa International Stadium.
These events will serve as the official test for the highly anticipated IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019. Organisers are encouraging the public to experience the action at the Khalifa International Stadium ahead of the 27 September event when the world of athletics descend upon Doha for ten days of sports action.
