Qatar Tourism celebrates World Tourism Day 2024 under the theme ‘Tourism and Peace’, highlighting the vital role of the tourism sector in fostering peace and understanding between nations and cultures and in supporting reconciliation process.
The event, held at Heenat Salma Farm was attended by Qatar Tourism and Visit Qatar senior staff members along with local and regional media members where they enjoyed cultural workshops.
The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum’s Education and Awareness Department also presented an art workshop titled ‘Sport in Global Paintings’ which combined art and sports and highlighted the cultural value of sports on a global scale.

HE Saad Bin Ali Kharji, Chairman of Qatar Tourism, highlighted the transformative power of tourism. He stated, ‘Tourism is more than just a means of exploration; it is a powerful catalyst for transformation.’
Kharji noted Qatar’s commitment to the tourism sector, under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, underpinned by the recently launched Third National Development Strategy for 2024-2030, which aims to enhance economic diversification and contribute to the Qatar National Vision 2030. He emphasises, ‘By creating jobs and fostering inclusion, the tourism sector is paving the way for our country to thrive.’

With over 3.2 million visitors welcomed by August 2024—a 26% increase from the previous year—Kharji expressed Qatar’s ambition to become a premier family-friendly destination and increase tourism’s GDP contribution from 7% to 12% by 2030. He stated, ‘Our success is rooted in our dedication to service excellence, transparency, and collaborative efforts.’
Qatar’s position as a global sports hub and its development of medical tourism are key focus areas, with significant events like the FIFA World Cup 2022™ and the upcoming MICE initiatives enhancing its appeal. Kharji added, ‘Qatar naturally encourages cultural exchange, promoting global understanding and peace.’
He concluded by thanking partners for their commitment to sustainable tourism, reinforcing Qatar’s vision as a world-class destination.
