The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) encourage nationals and residents to give back to the country by becoming teachers in local schools and impacting student learning.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) has announced a number of teaching vacancies for government or public schools (primary and secondary levels) for the 2020–21 academic year.

The vacancies include specialised teachers for Arabic language (male and female), mathematics (male and female), sociology (male only), computer (male and female) and arts (female only).

To qualify, the candidate should have the following:

• Residence Permit (RP), also known as the Qatar Identification (QID) Card

• Not be above the age of 50

• Bachelor’s degree

• Adequate computer skills

• Pass the test and interview

The MOEHE will conduct interviews for selection and make contracts with selected candidates.

The required documents are copies of passport, QID, Bachelor’s degree, diploma in education if available, and experience certificate.

The vacancies are open for new graduates of Qatar University (QU) and other universities based in Qatar for the 2020–21 academic year. They should hold a bachelor’s degree with good marks.

This is part of the MOEHE’s plan to employ qualified graduates of QU as part of the Tumoh Programme, which aims to build a cadre of local teachers with a defined career path. QU, in collaboration with the MOEHE, launched the Tumoh Programme in 2018, aiming to attract and enourage Qatari and non-Qatari youth to study in educational specialities, especially scientific disciplines, which will contribute to the development of the learning environment and meet the needs of local schools in various disciplines. The programme is included in the government scholarship programmes supervised by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA).

The MOEHE also hires experienced expatriate teachers to fill the shortages in specialised fields.

The expansion of schools and classrooms in public schools make it a necessity to hire new teachers annually especially locally.

The MOEHE will continue its expansion plans by adding more than 195 classrooms and increasing the number of public schools to 240 by the
2025–26 academic year.

Teach For Qatar
Founded by HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Teach For Qatar is a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) working as part of the solution to help solve some of the challenges Qatar’s students face. It does this by reinvesting exceptionally talented leaders into the government or public school system through a two-year teaching and leadership development programme known as the Leadership Journey.

Teach For Qatar hand-picks local graduates and professionals who wish to give back to the country by positively impacting student learning, whether nationals or residents, by providing them the opportunity to inspire students through full-time employment in one of its partner government schools.

Teach For Qatar has strategic partnerships with the MOEHE, Qatar Petroleum (QP), Qatar Foundation (QF), ExxonMobil Qatar, and Qatar National Bank (QNB). It is the 32nd member of the Teach for All Network, recognised in 2013 as one of the world’s 100 strongest NGOs by the Global Journal.

The Leadership Journey equips fellows with transferable leadership skills, adaptable to whichever career path they choose to pursue at the end of their Fellowship. The Teach For Qatar Leadership Journey Fellowship is a two-year full-time paid job as a teacher. Fellows will teach either English, Mathematics, Science or Arabic.

Beginning with the Summer Institute
Running for seven weeks, the Summer Institute begins in June and ends in August. It’s an essential part of the Fellowship experience as it’s how Teach For Qatar nurtures the Fellows’ teaching and leadership skills and prepares them for their teaching placement. Fellows will be immersed in the theory of their subject matter. They will build a supportive network of like-minded individuals and form a strong bond with their programme manager, who will continue to support their development throughout the Fellowship. Fellows will also be equipped with the skills and knowledge they require to embark on a teaching journey that will impact at least 60 students a year.

The first year
Once Fellows take up their school placement at the start of the academic year, they will be allocated a number of classes. Fellows will teach between 12 – 18 hours per week. They will be treated like a regular full-time teacher employed by the MOEHE, and therefore, will be expected to abide by the school’s policies and procedures. Teach For Qatar will provide Fellows with various forms of support for throughout their journey. They will be visited regularly by their programme manager, who will guide their teaching development and empower them to have the greatest possible impact within their classroom. They will also receive support in the form of peer learning circles and fellow mentors.

Returner’s Institute
After completing the first year of the Journey, Fellows will return to join the next cohort for their Summer Institute in what is known as Returner’s Institute. This will be a chance to share their experiences with new Fellows. Fellows will build upon the skills they acquired in the first year, learn new ones and understand how to refine them to optimise their impact on their students.

The second year
Fellows will go back into the classroom with a fresh perspective as they seek to enhance their impact on every student. In their second year, they will also begin their curriculum with HEC Paris in Qatar, which aims to teach them career-related skills such as change management, leadership and communication which will serve them well in pursuing any one of their four alumni pathways.

The entry requirements for the Teach For Qatar Fellowship are:

• A bachelor’s degree in any field except education

• GPA of a minimum of 3.0

• The applicant is not a teacher, has not worked as a teacher in the past or has not been employed by the MOEHE

• Only eligible to teach a subject related to their undergraduate degree

• Have a valid Qatari Residency Permit (RP)

• Have a good understanding of both the English and Arabic languages
