Sahtak Awalan – Your Health First, the flagship public health campaign of Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q), has actively participated in two exciting FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ festivities.
Walk the Talk Doha, a community walk around Doha’s largest Fan Zone in Al Bidda Park, recently saw Sahtak Awalan fitness instructors provide guided warm-up exercises to all participants. The event was staged by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in partnership with FIFA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).
Another Sahtak Awalan initiative, the One Goal programme, meanwhile, joined Msheireb Downtown Doha’s World Cup activation zone. The One Goal zone features an impressive line-up of experiences, including immersive VR games, information about healthy lifestyles and a walk-through presentation of Khayr Qatarna, the groundbreaking agriculture project under Sahtak Awalan. The zone operates daily from 2 pm to 12 am during the tournament season.
According to Nesreen Al-Rifai, WCM-Q’s Chief External Affairs and Development Officer and the driving force behind Sahtak Awalan, empowering the community to embrace a healthy lifestyle is at the heart of everything they do. She said that Sahtak Awalan was conceived as a catalyst for health and well-being and quickly grew to become a well-respected national initiative.
Today, I am proud to say that we not only have a strong presence within the community but have had a real impact on people of all ages across the entire spectrum of society.
She said that the success of the campaign was made possible through the continuous support of their strategic partners such as Qatar Foundation, the MoPH, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Municipality, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and ExxonMobil Qatar.
Sahtak Awalan – Your Health First was launched in 2012 to inspire and empower all members of the community to achieve and maintain good health in sustainable ways through a wide variety of initiatives.
