As the home for entertainment and creativity, TikTok announced the launch of a short film competition with a sport-based theme in collaboration with the Doha Film Institute (DFI), encouraging creators to showcase their creativity and passion for storytelling through video.
Taking place across Qatar this October and using the hashtag #DreamTheImpossible, this short film competition stems from TikTok’s mission to inspire creativity and bring joy. It also forms part of TikTok’s ongoing commitment for communities to unlock the power of creativity to drive positive, meaningful and lasting change and highlight the universality of expression, to bring different cultures together.
Celebrating the community’s creativity, TikTok has partnered with DFI to encourage artists, filmmakers and creatives to share their stories around #DreamTheImpossible with an overarching creative theme based on sports.
Running for three weeks, from 5 to 26 October, the competition will seek video submissions using the hashtag #DreamTheImpossible, where creators can share their authentic stories on achieving the ‘impossible’. The best ten videos will be shortlisted by DFI.
Public voting
Once the DFI publishes the shortlist of the top 10 videos for each category, nominations will open for the final phase of in-app public voting from 1 until 7 November. The entry with the highest number of votes in each category will be declared as winners on 7 November.
TikTok is a platform for creative content and showcases the power of short-form video as a medium for storytelling, creativity and sharing passions across cultures. Their collaboration with DFI to host this short film competition will unlock exciting new opportunities for creators to display the depth and diversity of their content from around the region and across the different communities in Qatar.
The three winners from the #DreamTheImpossible competition will be awarded a TikTok trophy and will have their films screened at the prestigious Doha Film Experience this November. The first-place winner will also receive a US$10,000 film grant to further their passion for filmmaking and content creation.
In addition, the competition will also help uncover fresh creative stories from across the MENA region, promote the power of filmmaking in nourishing the soul of the community and bring people and cultures together via the universality of expression and storytelling.
