Following the conclusion of the six-day Qatar TotalEnergies Open Tournament, TotalEnergies Qatar Country Chair and EP Qatar Managing Director Matthieu Bouyer congratulated the Qatar Tennis Squash and Badminton Federation (QTF) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for a very successful tournament.
The Qatar TotalEnergies Open (QTO) tournament, which was held recently from 13 to 18 February, saw Singles Defending Champion Iga Swiatek (Poland), and Doubles Defending Champions Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff (USA) and Jessica Pegula (USA), win for a second year in a row.
Bouyer said that for the past 21 years, they have seen the tournament evolve from a Tier 3 tournament to one of the top tournaments in the players’ agenda. He said that QTO 2023 has been a successful edition with most of the top 20 players participating this year again.
We are thrilled to support this women’s tournament which conveys some key values that we share in the way we conduct our daily activities such as fair play, performance mindset and commitment.
He said that the event also plays a part in promoting diversity since it is a platform showcasing ladies’ sports and how it can inspire young tennis players in Qatar and the region.
TotalEnergies, a title sponsor from its first edition in 2001, reinforced the long-term partnership with QTF and continued their joint engagement efforts towards encouraging participation in sports such as tennis by the local and international community, especially among the youth.
Through the tournament, Bouyer shared that they promote the company’s actions towards sustainability. He shared that this year, they presented some technologies that are implemented daily in their facilities to reduce carbon emissions and produce cleaner energy through solar, conducting educational sessions around recycling and plastic pollution.
I would like to congratulate the organising committee – particularly QTF President HE Nasser Al Khelaifi, Secretary General Tariq Darwish Zainal, Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi, and all the staff and volunteers for the growing success of Qatar TotalEnergies Open.
Open platform
TotalEnergies has utilised Qatar TotalEnergies Open as a platform to foster its TAMKEEN programme for knowledge-sharing and human development initiatives, to promote local cultural and artistic talent in Qatar.
These initiatives include collaboration with Doha Environmental Actions Project (DEAP Qatar) for an ecological awareness session for young kids on plastic pollution, and its impact on marine life, and brainstorming various actions required to mitigate the challenge.
The company also organised various events in its booth located in the Public Village, enabling visitors to truly benefit and discover the different forms of energy developed and how it places sustainability at the heart of its strategy, projects and operations.
