United Development Company (UDC) signed three contracts worth QAR 334 million for the development of the Gewan Island project, unveiled recently during Cityscape Qatar 2018.
Gewan Island, UDC’s biggest real estate project currently, spans across 400,000 square metres and will support a mix of property types, catering to different accommodation requirements and investment needs. It derives its name from the full-round, pink-tinted and perfectly shaped pearl.
Ibrahim Al Othman said they are very confident that Gewan Island and its real estate offerings will attract local and international investors.
Project Management Services Awarded to Faithful+Gould
SNC-Lavalin’s Faithful+Gould business was chosen to provide project management services to the UDC Gewan Island development. The company is tasked to implement the delivery strategy and programme for Gewan Island and to work with all stakeholders for the earliest possible completion of the project. They currently oversees the development of the design for the project, providing technical peer review and value engineering options.
Faithful+Gould Regional Managing Director Campbell Gray said they are proud to be working with UDC. He said that they will use digital platforms and tools to support their service delivery model and enhance efficiency of project management, to save time and money.
Dar Al-Handasah to Handle Design Consultancy Services
Dar Al-Handasah was appointed to carry out the design consultancy services pertaining to master planning, infrastructure, architecture and engineering consultancy services of Gewan Island development.
Their scope of services will cover master planning and infrastructure, as well as buildings architectural and engineering design services. Infrastructure services include designing roads and bridges as well as marine works in addition to water supply, firefighting, wastewater, storm-water drainage and irrigation networks, power networks, telecommunication and low current networks, a gas network, and a solid waste vacuum network. The scope of services will also cover the environmental impact study, the traffic impact study as well as the preparation of tender documents.

Dredging, Reclamation and Marine Works Under MEDCO
The Middle East Dredging Company (MEDCO) will be responsible for the execution of marine works including dredging and reclamation, construction of sand beaches, shore protection rock revetments, breakwaters, and quay walls for Gewan Island. Construction works shall commence in May for a year and half period.
